The path to a 2020 NFL season became much clearer on Friday after player representatives from the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) approved the league's proposed amendments to the collective bargaining agreement.

The sides reached agreement on adjusting the salary cap following a loss of revenue as well as guidelines for players who choose to opt out of playing this season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

There are also parameters established on how to handle guaranteed salaries in the event the league does not play a full season.

"Our NFLPA Board of Representatives voted to adopt, by a count of 29-3, the proposed amendments to the 2020 Collective Bargaining Agreement to protect our players' health, safety and financial wellbeing," the NFLPA said in a statement.

With the agreement, training camps are set to start on schedule on Tuesday, the same day COVID-19 testing will begin around the league. That will be followed by a second round of tests on the fourth day of camp.

Players who test negative twice will then be allowed to enter team facilities and camp will proceed. Daily testing will take place for the first two weeks of camp and then will be every other day if the positive rate is below 5 percent at that point.

The sides had already agreed to cancel all preseason games as well as reducing the number of roster spots in training camp from 90 to 80. Teams have until Aug. 16 to get down to 80 players.

The Texans and Chiefs have veterans scheduled to arrive at camps this weekend because they meet in the season opener on Sept. 10.
